Last minute information to the 14th Annual Vojtěch Jarník International Mathematical Competition




There are some small changes in the programme of the competition. These changes should help us to improve the organization of the competition.

  1. The participants (competitors and members of the Jury) are kindly asked to register when they arrive to Ostrava.

    The participants can register at the secretariat of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava

    • on Monday, 29th March 2004, from 8:00 to 20:00,
    • on Tuesday, 30th March 2004, from 8:00 to 20:00 or
    • on Wednesday, 31st March 2004, from 8:00 to 8:45.

    If you decide to register as soon as you arrive to Ostrava, the following transportation instructions may be useful for you:

    1. If you arrive by train to Ostrava-hlavní nádraží (Ostrava-Main Station), take any tram (1, 2, 8, 12) and go to the stop "Hotelový dům Jindřich" (approx. 6 minutes). Go on to the crossing and turn left to the 30.dubna street. The faculty is the next building behind the "Red School" (a red building) on the right-hand side. The address is 30.dubna 22. You should read: "Ostravská univerzita, Přírodovědecká fakulta".

    2. If you get off at the railway station Ostrava-Svinov, take the tram no. 4, 8 or 9 and go to the stop "Náměstí republiky". Then change to the tram no. 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 (you do not have to change if you already are in tram no. 4 or 8 :) and go to the stop "Hotelový dům Jindřich" (approx. 20 minutes in total). Go back to the crossing, turn left to the 30.dubna street and come to the faculty.

  2. Access to the Internet will be provided for all participants (room A 46)

    • on Tuesday, 30th March 2004, from 8:00 to 18:00,
    • on Wednesday, 31st March 2004, from 10:00 to 18:00 and
    • on Thursday, 1st April 2004, from 8:00 to 15:00.

  3. Lunch will be provided for the members of the Jury on Tuesday, 30th March 2004.

  4. Some banquet for all participants will take place after the closing ceremony on Thursday, 1st April 2004, from 15:20. Please inform us as soon as possible if you want to take part in the banquet.

  5. Please note that the Rules of the Vojtěch Jarník Annual International Mathematical Competition have been updated.
